We'll Live Under the Same Sky

To the one who made five months feel like a lifetime,

How are you? How have you been? Is life better now? Is everything all right? Do you miss me? I miss you terribly.

When you read this, I’ll be far away. I don’t know whether I want you to smile or cry, but I think I want the smile. I want you to be happy, wherever you are. I hope life is gentler with you now than it was when I wrote this. I hope you smile with your whole heart.

It’s strange, isn’t it? Five months passed in a rush. Maybe one day, all we’ll be able to name are five small things about each other. Maybe we’ll remember them and smile, knowing that for a little while, we were happy. I’ll wish you well. I hardly ever make wishes, but I will for you.

No matter what the world tells you, or what you tell yourself, I know what you’re capable of. You always find a way through. When you feel stuck, remember the person you were before I came into your life. You were still able to find your way. My storms have taken a toll on the heart you carry.

They broke down the walls you had built around yourself. Believe it or not, I became one of your weaknesses. No matter how hard you tried to turn that weakness into strength, you couldn’t do it with me. I was more complicated than you expected. You thought you had found someone who might be right for you. Me.

I miss the way we held each other’s faces and kissed, finding peace in each other’s arms. We hugged and fell asleep together through the little time we had. I miss your soft “good morning.” Do you remember those two nights we spent listening to the same two songs on repeat until dawn?

We never made a bucket list, but if we had, I think we would have crossed off every last thing. Then, in what felt like a single breath, five months were gone, and we were making plans for our futures.

Futures without each other.

It breaks my heart to say it, but I believe we’ll move on. We’ll still live beneath the same sky. Whenever you feel scared or lost, look up. I’ll be there in the thought of you, wishing you well.

I love you with all my heart. It may be shattered into a million pieces, but it can still love more than you ever imagined.

I hope you’re doing well. I hope you’re happy.

Under the same sky, still wishing you well,

Yours forever,
Shallu
